World Work in Joel’s Words – July 2018

The following excerpt is from the book Consciousness Transformed, in the lecture of April 28, 1963, “The Unfolding Message: Spiritual Power”

As long as there are people fighting evil conditions, there will be evil conditions to fight because the mind believing in two powers is creating conditions of good and evil.  These evil powers cease to be when you cease fighting them, when you withdraw power from them.  “Pilate, thou couldest have no power over me unless it came from God!”[1]  You see, our world work is not fighting evil people or evil conditions.  To the contrary, it is withdrawing power from them and it is making of ourselves clear transparencies so the Christ can flow through our consciousness and dissolve the pictures of sense.

It is universal human consciousness that constitutes the belief in two powers and thereby creates the conditions in the world.  It is an individual’s recognition of the non-power of this universal carnal mind and its pictures that releases the Christ into human experience.  Every time that we have an experience that proves the non-power of something that the world gives power to, we are not only lessening the universal belief, but we are making it possible for somebody somewhere to pick up what we have loosed in consciousness. …

Probably all of the people in the churches who are engaged in world-wide prayer activity are praying for peace on earth.  You know they must fail, because peace on earth cannot be—not with man’s consciousness as it is now.  That is why in our world work we are not asking for peace.  What good would peace be as long as consciousness remains at the human level?  No, it would only mean an interval between wars.  Man’s consciousness must change.  Therefore, our prayers should never be for peace or temporary good.  World prayer should be the realization of the non-power of the carnal mind and the nature of God as individual consciousness.
